All applications must be made via the SA Health online recruitment portal.
Position descriptions, closing dates, and required documentation for application are listed on the SA Health online recruitment portal.
Selection into Rheumatology Advanced Training in SA utilizes a single centralised panel. The selection panel consists of a Chair, plus Head of Department (or representative) of each SA Local Health Network and STP training sites. This includes NAHLHN, TQEH, RAH, SALHN, STP.
For any queries about the application process, please email the Chair of the Selection Panel (Prof Catherine Hill Catherine.Hill@sa.gov.au). However, there will be no individual meetings with prospective trainees with selection panel members or the Chair regarding trainee selection.
The Chair is a senior rheumatologist independent of the training sites. There are 4 training sites plus STP (private practice) training position, offering 7 full-time equivalent positions. Part-time training is possible within this structure. Training sites are all based in Adelaide; however, several positions do include rural work. The number of new training positions varies year to year and is often not known until applications from current trainees have closed. Advanced trainees can only have one full-year equivalent of core clinical training at each individual site. Applicants offered a training position can only accept or decline for that site and cannot negotiate for acceptance to another training site.
Selected trainees, subject to satisfactory completion of RACP training requirements, remain within the programme until all requirements for training have been completed. SA Health employment is for 3 years. However, all SA Rheumatology advanced trainees will be interviewed annually.
Application Process:
Recruitment is overseen by SA Health, and applications are via the SA Health. Position descriptions for each site are available on that portal, and additional site information is available on the ARA website (see menu on left for individual site information). Individual training sites will provide the same information by email upon request, but there will not be individual meetings with prospective trainees by members of the selection panel prior to the selection process.
Selection for interview is based on the applicant’s CV/application and in addition to any documentation required by SA Health, applicants MUST complete the SA ARA Structured CV and Referee Listing Document.
Applicants are encouraged to complete all sections and are able to provide information on circumstances that may have impacted their opportunity to excel in any section, and any relevant career disruptions. When completing the SA ARA Structured CV and Referee Listing document, applicants are required to list 2-3 referees from whom a structured referee report will be obtained. One of the referees must be a medical employment supervisor who has worked with you in the past 6 months. If this is not possible, please contact the Chair to further discuss. Other referees may include a member of medical, nursing or allied health staff who you have worked with. Your referee must NOT be a member of the selection panel.
Interviews are generally in person but may be by video-link in certain circumstances, and occur approximately two weeks after the closure of applications. Interviews are structured with each applicant asked the same questions by a centralised panel member. Questions cover core domains applicable to the selection criteria and the Rheumatology profession. Different questions will be used for incoming and continuing applicants.
The final rank of an applicant takes into account the applicant’s CV/application, centralised interview, and referees’ reports. The ranking of applicants provides SA Health with a preferred applicant list and an eligibility list. Position offers can only be made by SA Health and listing does not constitute a job offer. In the event of a preferred applicant declining a SA Health offered position, applicants on the eligibility listing will be contacted in rank order until the position is filled. Unsuccessful applicants may contact the Chair for feedback. However, this will be general in nature and will not address responses to specific interview questions.
Allocation of training site:
This is performed by the Selection Panel based on the needs of individual trainees.
Job offers and site allocations offered by SA Health are NOT negotiable or transferable. Successful applicants must either Accept or Decline an offered position and cannot arrange swaps with other trainees.
