Dr Rachel Black

Dr Rachel Black is a Consultant Rheumatologist based at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. She also visits the Clare Valley on alternate months. She graduated from The University of Adelaide in 2004 and completed her rheumatology training in 2012. She is an active clinician researcher, with an interest in epidemiology and glucocorticoids. She undertook a research fellowship at The University of Manchester, UK in 2013, having been awarded the Ken Muirden Overseas Training Fellowship for that year. She received her doctorate from The University of Adelaide in 2019, with a Dean’s Commendation. Her thesis examined the epidemiology and patient perspectives of glucocorticoid use in rheumatic diseases.

Rachel is an executive member of the South Australian branch of the ARA, previously serving as honorary treasurer from 2020-2023. She was an inaugural member of the ARA Early Career Group steering committee from 2019-2020 and has been a member of the ARAD steering committee since 2018. She is also a member of the SA Rheumatology Advanced Training Selection Panel, having chaired this group from 2017-2020.

She enjoys travel, reading and spending time with her family.
