Associate Professor Jane Munro is a paediatric rheumatologist at the Royal Children’s Hospital and lead of Rheumatology research at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. She led the ANZCLARITY Juvenile Arthritis study and is a Chief Investigator on the Australian Arthritis and Autoimmune Biobank (A3B3) study, is CI on two large collaborative MRFF grants and one CRE. In 2020 she co-founded Pandemic Kindness Movement. During 2021-2023 she worked as a senior medical Adviser in the Office of the DCHO at the Victorian Department of Health.
Jane enjoys juggling roles as doctor, researcher, private practice owner, director, advocate, writer and mum. She is currently completing a degree in Writing and Editing at RMIT in Melbourne and has a pebble in her shoe to write children’s and young adult’s books so keep an eye out.
A career in paediatric rheumatology is a full circle for Jane who had Juvenile Arthritis as a child (she was cared for by the beautiful Dr Helen Moran), and yes she is aware this has many deep psychological meanings. Jane is also passionate about improving clinician wellbeing and strongly believes in the role of building community, storytelling, spreading kindness and the need for health systems change.
